The Egg Plant was the original name
given to the house-turned-restaurant by Maurine Anderson over 25 years
ago. Maurine was also the originator of the 101 omelet menu. The
restaurant changed ownership in 1985, when Bettie Travis and Margerie
Riberdy took it over and changed the name to Egg Plantation. The two
ladies worked very hard and made the restaurant renowned as Santa Clarita’s
#1 breakfast spot. Ten years later, changes were made in ownership, which
unfortunately hurt the restaurant’s reputation and a few months
later eventually closed it’s doors. Many of the customers were very
disappointed to see their favorite breakfast spot close. The restaurant
was then taken over by Joe and Maryanne Gallagher, who transformed it
into an Irish steakhouse, that served great home cooked meals and
desserts. In July of 2000 the Gallaghers decided to move back to their
home town in New Jersey.
The restaurant wasn’t vacant for long before Simon Mee, a local
Santa Clarita resident who remembered the restaurant as it was, reopened
the doors. He spotted the location and decided to bring the restaurant
back, so with the help of family and friends he and his wife, Shannon,
got straight to work. With the support of the surrounding businesses and
one of the original servers, Clara Salinas, we were able to put every
ones favorite breakfast restaurant back on the map. In October 2000 the
doors were reopened as Egg Plantation with the original 101 omelet menu
and four of the original chefs. The interior looks a little different,
but the food is just as delicious as ever. The hours of the restaurant
are the same, open daily from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm and is only closed for
Christmas Day.
In an average week over 6000 extra large farm fresh eggs are broken.
Although we specialize in omelets our restaurant is available in evenings
for excellent private dinners. With an European café feel, friendly and
personal service, and great food.
We have brought back the reputation as Santa Clarita’s #1 breakfast
spot.
We would like to thank Bettie and Marg for their support and everyone
else who had a part in making the Egg Plantation what it is today, a
successful family owned restaurant.
Best Wishes from all the crew at the Egg Plantation
